I want to update firmware of WD20EARS-00MVWB0

I am using a 2TB hard drive model of WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0. I am facing an issue when I try to enable SMART on this hard drive. The firmware version on this is 51.0AB51 and if I am trying firmware version of the drives for enabling SMART with 0953 then it will fail. So, I wanted to know a way to upgrade to the latest firmware version on this hard drive? Does anyone know how to do it successfully? Thank you

Well, you will need the files first of all with the update which is not posted anywhere though. Also, the file is not allowed to be posted on the WD forum but you can try to request them to give you some support for the same issue. There is also a user with the name fzabkar on the WD forum, he was able to make some tool to change firmware on the other WD hard drives.

I have read that the WD20EARS-00MVWB0 drives are physically different. There are usually 3 platters instead of 4 platters in the older drives even if the drive space is same. So this is where there is some difference which needs to be understand. I am also hoping that WD should release some type of update to make the drive report its sectors natively as 4k.

Can you try to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and see if that works. I am using a ReadyNas DUO with firmware 4.1.7 and have got this 2TB WD20EARS-00MVWB0 drive. I installed the firmware and then reset the NAS and intialised the drive which took only 15 minutes. The only problem that I am facing is that the drive speed is very slow.
