If possible, return the unit to place of purchase. The most likely get a new substitute. If instead of returning the unit to WD, then you can get a refurbished exchange.

I have 12 of these units. None is older than 1 year. Most less than 6 months. Currently I have 4 that are failing. Two with the error you have. I use them to store large video files. Most have never played in these storage disks. A failure rate of 33% on disks that are used very rarely equals the bleep condition. I'm in the process of RMA, but does not intend to use replacement. I'm in early on in the process of elimination it was because they are unreliable. These units should not be in the market. WD's your fault for taking my money and selling this garbage. I have been buying the WD , with the exception of a Samsung and OCZ 1. I think that will change.

I was facing exactly similar problem and Most of my friends told me that WD Green is not good as other high definition. I formatted the HD and now it is well.
