| Re: FreeAgent 1TB USB drive disconnect automatically
The merely way to acquire the drive back is to cycle the power. Instantaneously afterward the drive is back on-line, the entire drive tests are run & they demonstrate the drive functioning usually. Drive alternative for power-saving mode is set to 'never'. Backup is set to run each additional day at midnight & determine to run productively for a week or so previous to this failure occurs. No innovative updates have encompassed and been found for moreover. The is CC34 and drive PN is 9ZG2AG-50. Recurring tests of the drive come up clean. My system is a Dell Dimension 4600 working with XP SP3. Search of the discussion does not locate several similar events, hence this situation. |

Merely thing with the purpose of comes to mind considering what you have encompassed previously completed is it's moreover getting too hot being associated for too long, or perhaps your MB chipset drivers are in necessitate a of a freshen up. The drive sits on the top of the desk by means of lots of air circulation approximately it. It's been 'dusted' to make sure the vents are the entire clear & the case is hardly warm to the touch. |

I do not imagine it's an internal heat problem unless these drives are not premeditated to run 24/7. Which chipset are you referring to with the intention of might necessitate a 'refresh' to the drive. |

Another reason might be you encompass a damaged system file in the O/S, one terrible uninstall is sufficient to cause it. I determine to make sure it out & post back if I locate anything worthwhile. The Drive has 'behaved' as last a small number of backups (daily) have comprised and run ok. As said, it's intermittent, other than extremely annoying none-the-less. |

It sounds similar to your drive has intermittently misplaced power or USB correlation to your system as you indicated "The merely method to acquire the drive back is to cycle the power". Endeavor these straightforward steps previous to updating the "firmware". In this you have to attach power to your drive. The spindle motor starts spinning; the LED flashes speedily then goes off. After that you have to attach the USB cable between your system switch USB port as desirable and your drive. At present, the LED determine to turn ON and will remain dimmed at the same time as your drive in low power mode merely when mutually power and USB cable are connected. If, subsequent to a short at the same time as, the LED unexpectedly went off, this indicates to facilitate your drive has lost one of the two mentioned connections. |

Tranquil, I speculate, given the 'age' of the system and the OS windows XP, if the USB bus might be overloading at times. As previously said, when it has failed, cycling the USB cable and yes, I have encompassed and changed it has no effect, merely cycling the power. In any case, I determine to watch what occurs & then go commencing from there & post back results. |

Previous to I started to use my FreeAgent hard drive on innovative laptop, determined to install Seagate manager FreeAgent begin to disappear. Then I had purchased eSATA cable. And subsequent to I associated harddrive commencing from side to side eSATA and software did not locate my hard drive subsequent to 2 reinstalls and restarts I uninstalled the entire seagate software commencing from new laptop. And it runs completely for at present. You have so numerous devices connected to your computer! Even although they are powered by their own power adapters, to be safe, consider a higher rated system power supply (400 - 500W). |
