RAID card ICP GDT8546RZ and WD2002FYPS

I have a pretty old RAID card (PCI GDT8546RZ). Meanwhile ICP was taken by Adaptec. No compatibility lists may be found on the internet.I have the following units I would like to connect:

    • WD2002FYPS - 02W3B0 04.01G01
    • WD2002FYPS - 01U1B1 04.05G05
    • WD2002FYPS - 01U1B0 04.05G04
    • WD2002FYPS - 02W3B0 04.01G01

There are lots of things about Firmware question about these drivers.
    1. can connect these units without risk of data loss?
    2. Are all firmware’s up to date and free of defects?
    3. if not, I can update the firmware?
    4. If so, you give me a link.
    5. Is there any jumpers on the drive, when set to increase compatibility?

    • 1 - If you do not have a backup, then you will always have a risk of data loss. RAID is not a backup, a system that adds great space and fault tolerance if a disk failure or more depending on the matrix, you need a separate backup in case the controller fails or the RAID mode is not recoverable.
    • 2, 3 and 4 - There is no publicly available versions of firmware for the units, as such; there is no way of knowing if the units are up to date, and if not, I do not think WD will allow the firmware to be posted in the forum. It is public for a reason.
    • 5 - Jumper settings just to change the SATA mode. In addition to increasing the compatibility with the system itself, but not between the units.Click the star Congratulations to thank you for the helpful messages and "Accept as solution" in the options for the post that solved your problem.

Re: RAID card ICP GDT8546RZ and WD2002FYPS

I have not changed the firmware on the drives. I have 55 MB / s read and 20 MB / s write speeds of hard drives that I use in a RAID 1 array. I’ve never seen a performance so bad! However, I do not know the time because the old computer (2004, ICP RAID GDT8546RZ card uses the PCI bus). The CPU load is only 20%. The slowest bus PCI (version 2.0) is capable of 133 MB / s, why is this poor performance. Also I tried to find an explanation WD2002FYPS bridges. No one knows exactly what SSC, Phy media. We did not find any information on the WD site.

    Let's see:
    • PHY: Reduce speed to drive SATA 6 Gb / s SATA 3 Gb / s (note that is not a SATA WD2002FYPS 6, is a SATA 3 drive, so this option is called OPT1 in this unit and slows the drive SATA 3 Gb / s SATA 1.5 Gb / s). This is used in case your mother is not compatible with the real data transfer speed of the unit.

    • SSC:spread spectrum clock is a frequency modulation modus operandi used in synchronous digital systems design (hard drive) to decrease the spectral density of electromagnetic interference (EMI) that hard drives generate. Due to its periodic nature correctly, the system emits spectral energy concerted in a narrow frequency range and its harmonics. This creates energy emission peaks that can hinder with electronics neighbors. SSC reduces the peak spectral energy, which EMI also by modulating the frequency of the clock signal around 0.1 -. 5 percent. This option has a hit on the performance of your unit.
