Problem with all USB-ports. Device driver was not succesfully installed

    Hello.

Recently my USB-ports stopped working, so that I can't use my mouse and my external hard drive. In device manager it seems that there is no problem with any of the USB, and when I try to update, they're all up to date.

This is really annoying. I hope some of you can help me with this

The problem can be with mouse you are using. Try to check that it working by applying to different usb ports. Second thing, when you open your system case inside you can see the usb cable plugge din the motherboard. It is some 6 pin connection on the board. Try to change the cable connection with different ports on the motherboard and then check back again. That might work properly. There should be a message on your windows saying usb device not recognized if your hardware is faulty.

Hey. Thanks for the quick answer
I've tried every port, and none of them work. I hear the sound, when you plug something in, the external hard drive gets power, and i get this message: "usb device not recognized".
I don't really understand the other thing you were saying, about changing cable connection, motherboard and 6 pin.

Can you tell us whether anything is plugged into a USB port? Is this a laptop or a computer? What are your computer/laptop specifications? What happens when you go back to device manager and click on usb controller and try to either update or rollback drivers? Does the laptop or the computer have a card-reader or PC-Card slot? If so, then one of those devices may be causing a problem. You may try installing the proper driver manually as well.

Its a laptop. HP Pavillion dv9000. It tells me that I already have the best driver software installed, when I try to update in device manager.
My mouse is plugged in and my hard drive is plugged in usb-ports.
