Upgrading my pc for gaming !!

My current spec are:
Intel Motherboard DG31PR
Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.80 Ghz
2 gb DDR2 ram
Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT 1 Gb
Two hdds one of 320 Gb & other of 1 Tb
DVD RW
Iball smsp (I don't know how much watt, but I know the model no. : LPE233-400 )

Now I want to upgrade this pc to meet the needs of current pc games.
With this spec also I'm able to play all the HD games but at higher resolution games start lagging.

So please recommend me some stuff.....

I have this recommended configuration which best meet the gaming requirements. But this definitely needs to fit your budget :

Intel Quad Core i5 - 2500k 3.3 GHz, 6MB cache, 1155 base
ASRock P67 PRO3 B3
4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-1333 CL9 DIMM Dual Kit
1536MB Asus ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD
LG W2443T
ATX CoolerMaster HAF 912 Plus Midi Tower
Corsair CMPSU-650TXV2

To an extent your graphic card is enough. You can keep that or else you can look for better gpu.

But I don't want to change my Processor, I need it.
By the way I need a good mobo replacement for ddr3 ram.
