How to setup SSD for windows 7

I just found that data transfer speed of solid state drive is much faster than hard disk drive, so I purchased a new OCZ vertex having capacity of 120 GB. It is 2.5 inch SSD with a SATA connector. After this purchase I am planning to install windows 7 in it. So for this purpose I searched articles, and found that there are many things to be done before installing windows in my SSD. I heard that I have to move paging file to another HDD and many more things. So please provide me with all these information, so that I can install windows 7 in it.

re: How to setup SSD for windows 7

I have also purchased SSD and have installed windows 7 in it. What I have done is that first I installed SSD on my cabinet. Then I restarted my computer and attached Windows 7 Bootable USB stick to my computer, then setup loaded and then I formatted old operating system and even formatted new SSD. Then I installed windows 7 in it. The setup continued and pc restarted and finally my window seven was installed and I enjoyed using it on my SSD.

When you connect your SSD to your cabinet, and then ensure that it is connected to SATA port 0, it can be port 0, 1 or 2, but for SSD it is good to have SATA port 0. After that you need to configure your BIOS. So enter into BIOS setup by pressing delete key or F2 key. Then select ACHI /IDE in your SATA connection, then boot to windows 7 setup using installation disc or USB stick. After that run setup and select SSD drive and install windows 7. There is no need to format your drive because it would get automatically formatted and windows 7 would line up a drive.

When you install windows 7 into your SSD, then you should turn off the following features. Very first when your computer starts up with windows 7, you have to disable disk defragmenter. Moving page file is not necessary; you should do that only if you are having shortage of space. When windows recommend it, you can manually set page file size to 200MB. In order to free up space from your SSD, you can remove hiberfil.sys file from it, because there is no need of that file and it just consume SSD time in read/ write cycle.

Disk defrag should be disabled for all of your drives. For that go to all programs, accessories, system tools and then disk defragmenter and their check that it is disable for all of your drives. Also ensure that if you are using any third party disk defragger, then disable these also for all the drives. You need to also disable indexing for drives. For doing that go to your disk drive properties and uncheck indexing present at the end of the dialog box and apply the settings.

Before installing windows 7 into your SSD, you need to ensure that TRIM is set to active. You can check it by entering a command into DOS window. Into command window type ?fsutil.exe behavior query DisableDeleteNotify? and press enter. You would get DisableDeleteNotify=0 if TRIM is active. if it is not zero, then set it to zero by typing ?fsutil.exe behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0? and press enter. Now your TRIM would be active and windows 7 would use TRIM when drivers and disks support trim.
