hello friends, i am having a HP deskjet 3420 printer. i want to set it up for my home PC. I have made all the connections but cannot perform print action because printer driver is not installed. I checked the HP site for the printer driver but the site says to use deskjet 3600. on my system i couldn’t find 3600 printer. When I tried for update, windows update couldn’t find the driver. Can anyone tell, from where to get the printer deskjet 3600 driver. Please help me.

You tried to update the printers driver but the windows update failed to update the driver as it could not find the driver. I can suggest you to go the Devices and Printers folder. Then click on Add the printer, click on Local Printer, and then select LPT1(printer port). When the list of printer appears in the dropdown list, click on Windows Update. Confirm in the updated list that Deskjet 3600 is present. If you don’t find it then install it and then try again. in the HP site there is no driver for the HP deskjet 3420. So you have to use alternate driver that is HP deskjet 3420.

If you fail to get the driver for your HP DeskJet 3420.then you can install the alternate driver i.e driver for Deskjet 3600. There are some of the models of printer like Deskjet 3320, 3325, 3420 and 3520 for which you can use deskjet 3600 driver. After you have installed the driver, then you need to configure the driver. If the driver is not configured correctly then your HP DeskJet 3420. printer will not work. While installing the alternate driver, follow the same procedure as my friend mentioned on the above post.

It is very important that you should configure the installed driver correctly. To configure the driver follow the following procedure. Go to Device and Printers and there right click on the product name and then select printer properties. When the printer properties window opens click on the Port Tab. then as you click on the dropdown menu, here change the port LPT1 to the USB port or DOT4 and then click OK. If there appears more than one USB/DOT4 port, then select the port which has the highest port number. Now you can perform a print test by clicking on print test page.
