Gateway laptop battery shows plugged in, not charging

I have a gateway laptop running on a Windows Vista Operating System. Yesterday is displayed “Plugged in, not charging” on my battery. To make things work out for me I have tried various ways in which it should not display me the same error on my battery. I think it can be because of my Windows Vista which I am running on my laptop. I had also tried uninstalling and installing my device twice but it did not worked out for me. Please help me in getting rid of this situation. Your reply would be very helpful and appreciated.

For uninstalling your device please follow the instructions given below and do not remove your Microsoft AC Adapter driver or ACPI Compliant driver:
1. Right click on My Computer icon
2. Select properties
3. Select hardware
4. Click on Device manager then this will open the list of devices
5. Now select your battery
6. Now by right clicking it select uninstall
7. Click on OK for confirmation

For installing your device please follow the instructions given below and do not remove your Microsoft AC Adapter driver or ACPI Compliant driver:
1. Right click on My Computer icon
2. Select properties
3. Select hardware
4. Click on Device manager then this will open the list of devices
5. Now select your battery
6. Now by right clicking it select install
7. Checked on Specific file from location
8. Select your drivers from the CD or give the path
9. Double click on it
10. Click on OK for confirmation

I had the same problem and it was cleared by carrying out following instructions:
1. Click on start
2. Search for Device Manager
3. Select your battery in the category given
4. From disable make it enabled or make it enabled again
5. Click OK for confirmation
Now I guess it should be working fine.

I had the same problem with my laptop for this purpose I gave them as it was in warranty. After that they changed the battery and then the motherboard, also, they had updated its bios but it was the same as the problem still persists. But they taught to change my battery. By doing that it seems my system was working fine. Also, it was not given the “Plugged in, charging not” on the battery. And by that it made me happy.

After a long search I came to from this web site which says you have to update your BIOS so that your system must work fine. BIOS resolved the issue where the battery did not charge fully. It took me just 5 minutes to download a 2MB file. After it I can say it worked out fine for me. Finally, it was not the hardware or software issue which had done problem to most of the system but you just simply need to update your BIOS.
