Printer is not detected on my usb cable

I have a new printer. It is located in a different room. I bought a new 6 feet long usb cable. I had connected this to my Windows pc. But the printer is not detected at all. It is a HP printer. I tried several times to make this work but nothing happens. I even installed the driver of the printer. But still Windows do not find my printer. I have a 2 usb in front and 2 in the back. I had connected the cable in the front panel. My pen drive is detected properly but on the same port printer is not found.

You can try using different usb port. You said that you have around 4 ports, 2 in the front and 2 at the back side. Better connect the printer to the backside. Because they usb is directly connected to the motherboard. You can check the front panel is properly connected to the motherboard. You can check cable inside. It is best to connect the printer at the backside and then run the driver cd.

Check the front port cable. Sometime the cable is loosen up or there is dust inside the system. If you have any knowledge on system hardware, then you can safely open the system and then wipe the dust or clean the front port. You can use any WD40 to remove the moisture. But this will waste most of your time. It is better that you must use the back panel. Also try to check the usb cable. At first you can bring the printer near to the system and installed then connect the long cable.

I will recommend you to check first that printer is on or not. There is power button on the front side. Turn on the printer and then check your system. Second thing you can also try to get the most recent drivers for the printer. Sometime due to old driver the system fails to find the new hardware. Download the driver from the printer site and then check again. Also try to use a new usb cable or you can also try wifi connection.

I too face the same issue for my Canon printer. What I did is simple restart. My system was failed to found my usb connections. So for that I rebooted the and then everything worked. One thing you have to also check is that your cable is not broken from somewhere. The only solution for this is that you have to get a new cable. Sometime you get a bad quality of wire is fails to connect the hardware properly. Get a proper as your distance is very long.
