Changing SMPS does not solve automatic restart of PC

Hi all, My system configuration is
    • Intel Extreme series DP45SG motherboard
    • Transcend DDR3 4GB RAM 1333Mhz
    • Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 processor
    • XFX Nvidia GeForce 9400GT Graphic card
    • 1TB Seagate Hard Drive
    • Samsung DVD RW
    • OS:Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

I have purchased this computer from the local hardware dealer. I got the SMPS of 500 W and when I tried to start the computer then it was not able to start the computer. After that I tried to sue the SMPS of 550W and found that it got started but getting restarted after every 20 to 30 minutes. Or if I try to play any video then it get restarted after 15 minutes o playback. Can you tell me that why this is happening to me and how can I solve this issue? I will be thankful to all the replies for this.

Is it getting restarted or it getting shutdown completely? Are you using the high quality PSU or some crappy PSU? As you told that this PC is assembled by some hardware dealer so I think that it will be still under warranty period and the best thing that you can do is just ask that person for that and he will solve the problem for you. This is the best way that I can suggest you and I am sure that you will get out of this issue without any problem.

The system does not need a larger supply of 450W. Even a good power supply of 400 W can do the work. I actually do not understand why you are wasting the money in buying the power supply of more watts. You can purchase OCZ otherwise Corsair 700W-750W through this money. Talking about restarting the computer, I was also having the comparable trouble. Each time I open a movie by means of Windows Media Player, it just restart the laptop. The temperature for the video card was excessively high. I solved the Problem through newest BIOS as well as drivers. You should ensure their temperatures, but I believe it is the similar problem since its temperature must be low at rest. I think it is the power supply. You should ensure for the voltages.

I also don’t think that you are having any problem with the PSU that you are using. As you told that you are having the 750W PSU and I think that this is more than enough. Even if you are using the PSU of 600W then also that is 20 percent extra that is needed for the computer. There may be also some problem with the graphics card that you are using restarting your computer. So you should not consider just the one thing like PSU. You should also check for the things like graphics card and other hardware attached to your computer. I hope that this will solve the problem for you.

I consider that this is the problem with some hardware like GPU or hard disk. There may be some problem with that. You can run the disk scan on your computer and that will solve any problem that may be there on your hard drive. It can be also Problem with the RAM that you are using in your computer. Either it is not compatible with your system or it is not placed properly to the RAM slot and that is the reason that it is showing you the issues like this. My suggestion to you is to remove the RAM from your computer and then reinsert that properly and see if that is able to solve the issue for you or not.
