    Repair a model M keyboard

My desktop system is quite old as I had bought it around 3 years back, but since then it has not come up with any major issues except for a few minor issues , but once there was an issue with my USB attached it suddenly had stopped working , and then after a while it started to function once again, but since then it stops working in between and works in an odd manner so now I am looking to replace it as it with a Model M keyboard , but in case if it goes faulty have anyone has got any idea how I can repair it.

The IBM Model M hardly ever needs repairs. Nonetheless, if you do have a Model M in require of repair, the modular design of the keyboard makes fixing one a comparatively easy task.
If you are repairing it please follow the given set of instructions :
    • For that you will need a Phillips-head #2 screwdriver .
    • And you will also require a Flat-head screwdriver .
    • Replacement keys that will be replaced .
    • Canned air .
    • Cotton swaps .
    • Replacement AT or PS2 keyboard cable that needs a change .

    Cleaning the Keyboard

    • Unplug the keyboard cable from the system. Switch and twist the Model M keyboard over so that it is facing bottom side upwards.
    • Use a flat-head screwdriver to snoop the higher half of the keyboard cover from the underneath part. Draw the higher half of the cover off the keyboard.
    • Make use of the lint-free cloth to clean away dust within the keyboard. Use the alcohol and cotton swabs to make it dirt free dirt and clean grime in hard-to-reach areas.

    Modfying a Keys and Springs

    • Remove the keycaps using your fingers. There is no necessitate to snoop them off with anything. Just draw up on a keycap to take out it.
    • Make use of a flat-head screwdriver to remove the internal key. Snoop up on the internal key quietly. Set the inside key aside.
    • Take out the buckling spring from the internal -key post. The spring should now slide up off the post. Wipe the segment around the post with a cotton scrub and alcohol. Reinstate the buckling spring, inside key or key cap as required.

I can also tell you how you can actually replace the Keyboard Cable

    • Unplug the telephone-type jack from the keyboard.
    • Make use of a cotton swab and alcohol to clean the plug region of the keyboard.
    • Plug the new cable to the keyboard and computer.
