Ok settle back for a good laugh. I wanted to wire an external earphone socket onto my Uniden PMR845 radio. In dismantling it I accidentally wired the socket in parallel with the battery instead of with the speaker. The result was a very hot battery and now the handset will transmit perfectly well but is very quiet when receiving - the reception is there but barely audible. What have I done and how might it be repaired? The handset is needed for a school skiing trip fairly soon....
I'd be massively grateful for any constructive advice that doesn't involve throwing the handset or myself, off a cliff.
Many thanks
Jerry
