Problem with Epson Stylus TX111 Printer

Hi guys...so have this wonderful Epson TX111.
Have just re replaced black cartridge with genuine Epson because the aftermarket product would only print top half of script in spite of using half a tank of ink with All mtce efforts to rectify. Now the Epson cartridge is worse with just a few dots.... no script.
Have re inserted, cleaned, aligned , cleaned contacts etc etc and now half the ink is gone from all the cartridges. Thinking of using to start a fire now as a new unit is almost the same price as a new set of cartridges.!!!
Any ideas out there??

if I put a black cartridge in perhaps the cyan slot could I atleast print a letter??
Is there a way to test and maintain JUST one cartridge maybe??

There are some do's and don'ts which you might not be aware about Epson Stylus printers. This is not published in the manual. First never leave the printer without a cartridge even for a single minute. This is because when you remove the cartridge and leave the printer like after some minutes the ink starts thickening. It is really hard to fix this. The only possible way to wipe this to keep on cleaning the contacts of the cartridge. After doing this for some time it might work. Second try to print on high resolution. On the nossels of the cartridge use alcohol to clean the face which might have in on it.

Thanks mate will try your suggestions if no go will bin it...aaah the disposable society of technology...surprised my mobile has only just started to give up the ghost after 4 years!
