    DH55HC hdd led always on

My system consists of Intel DH55HC motherboard, 2 GB ram and 160 GB hard disk. My problem is that I can always see led lights remaining on all the time. It remains constant without any blink. What is the problem with my computer, especially hard disk? Does that indicate hard disk failure or motherboard problem?

LED can not control voltage on its own. If an LED is plugged in it would act as a dumb terminal to withdraw as much power as provided until it burns out. This is the reason why we use resistor. So the fact that the LED is on shows that the hard disk is getting proper and constant power. So I would suggest to test your hard disk with some utility to make sure it is working properly.

Make sure the wiring on the motherboard which connects you with the case connections is proper. However, about hard disk LED, generally you have a positive and negative connection. You might have them switched. Try flipping the connector for the HDD LED over on the motherboard.

Change the location of the hard disk Led to terminals 2 and 4. These terminals indicates the hard disk usage rather than stable led lights. The current setup that you have now doesn't indicates anything and thus your LED remains on all the time because it is getting direct power supply without passing through anything. A key point over here is that never ground it to the case otherwise your motherboard will die.

May be a lot of services that are running on your system which is indicated by the LED lighting up. First disable Windows SuperFetch. This service preloads or prefetches frequently used programs. If this doesn't work then disable Volume Shadow Copy and Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service. This service creates a backup copy of files for System Restore. Many a times some computer executes System Restore for all the hard disks. So disable this feature too. If you have disk indexing and files compression feature enabled for any of your disk drives then do disable it.

If you want to check if your motherboard is working, remove all of your RAM sticks and replace with minimum ram stick inserted. If you have beeps then it ensures that RAM and motherboard is working. Then test your power supply on another computer to make sure it isn't faulty. Also check if 4 pin power and 24 pin atx connector are inserted properly. At the end, remove the hard disk and then boot Windows to see if you have post screen.

Regarding hard disk led's remaining on, when does is happen? When Windows has booted or before that?
