Type of Power Supply for Dell Studio XPS 7100

I have purchased a Dell Studio XPS 7100 desktop from ebay. This system is having 460 watt power supply. i am planning to upgrade graphic card to a GIGABYTE GV-N250-1GI GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card. Which type of PS does XPS 7100 uses. I even want to know the type of ATX. If some one can provide me with detail information. Your effort will be appreciated.

You need a power supply with five SATA power connectors. You must buy a compatible power supply from store. You can install most generic power supply units with 20+4-pin main motherboard power and p-2 12V 4-pin connector with or without on/off switch.See to it that the power supply you are getting is compatible with your Dell Studio XPS 7100. so that it will have no problem in future.

You are planning to upgrade the graphic card to GIGABYTE GV-N250-1GI GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express. So i will suggest you to have OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI power supply compatible with core i7. It is a perfect solution for driving todays gaming system. There is six SATA and four molex so you can load your system however you need to. Compatible with the ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V standards. It provides high power efficiency of 80% at any load between 40% and 100%.

Thank for your valuable information. now i have another doubt not related to this topic. Are ram, motherboard, psu, hard diska and other parts made by Dell itself? Are they use of other brands? If they are using from other brand, Is there any way i can know tha brand model specs of each hardware? If you are having knowledge for this also so please send me the detail information your effort will be really appreciated. Hope this will help some other people also.

The hdd and memory, RAM are usally from those manufacturer only that can be purchased from the computer stores. In my system I had Western Digital, Seagate and Maxtor HD's and several different brands of RAM are installed. The power supply has DELL labeled and some parts are made by dell’s proprietary design. But the information for brand/model for individual hardware are not available. What I did, whenever I receive a new system I always open the case and check what has been installed.

Re: Type of Power Supply for Dell Studio XPS 7100

I think some part of my problem is docs themselves. In the optiplex 745 memory specification it states that no model of the 745 supports 2GB 800MHz and the ultra SFF does not support 800MHz at all. I went to dell.com,Kingston.com and corsair.com and type my service tag then the all lists 2GB 800MHz as a valid option. So is appears the docs are wrong and none of these companies realize that it does not work on this system.

I meet with an odd problem with my Optiplex 745.System is not booting. I put in slot 1 and 2 two 256MB DDR@ and the system wont boot. Again I put 2x1GB kington and it does not power up. It mounts 2x512MB DDR@ memory. I wanted to have two 1GB and two 256MB inside. Can any one tell me where is the problem? please inform me. Your effort will be appreciated.
