As you have taken the hard disk of 512 GB SATA WD HD brand new. Gathered all the cables required for the linking both the device externally. Now the easiest way to connect them with the external is to join the wire each other. This may help to solve your problems what you are looking for.

Sometimes Modern external hard drives are well-matched with all Operating system supporting the relevant interface principles they work with, such as USB MSC or IEEE1394. These standards are support by all chief modern server and desktop operating systems and many embedded devices. But may depend on later updates or third party drivers. Please check it.

Something times this happens try the Defrag choice. Clean up the data on the drive, that's extremely important. If after you do that, it still doesn't work; ask yourself how important the information on it is to you. If you decide you don't care about the information then just get one more hard drive, but if you wish for the information then look for some one that has the tackle to get your information off of the hard drive and then get a fresh one.
