    Mouse - doesnt work

Heres a problem i have been fighting with
I have a desktop PC running Windows XP with optical mouse

I boot my PC and my mouse gets detected in Bios messages etc. Once the windows XP bootscreen is up and the loader is running, the red optical light inside mouse just stops. After loading windows, theres no change the mouse is stil not on or functional.
I try to change to another USB mouse in the meanwhile without rebooting. This new mouse gets activated and running upto 2-3 seconds adn then this also goes off.

I tried to plug off and plug in and try another mouse still no use
I tried rebooting and resetting bios still doesnt help. I need help with this
I am currently operating via keyboard.

Device manager cannot detect any mouse or HID compliance device

If the device stops working in between then the error for the device is "the hardware has cannot start"
The device manager normally shows up the usb port as unknown port

The most common resolution is to update the drivers that are associated with the failing device. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab.
    2. Click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard.
    3. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

The simplest solution is already trying to reinstall the driver with the one provided by the manufacturer. Another trick that seems to work for some is to stop the system, disconnect the power and support 30 seconds the power button to let the CPU empty and the motherboard to clear all the residual power. Then check back. If this does not work, there is a simple solution is to delete that file infcache.1 located in C: \ WINDOWS \ inf. Previously think of removing all USB devices into the unknown.

    done all the above experiments
    no success still
the USB port stops power to teh mouse after some time. I doubt this as mebbe a motherboard fault or power supply fault

As you have said that other pen drives are also not getting detected than it might be a problem with the usb port on the motherboard itself. Try to plug the device again and go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" it should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system. Try connecting the device again, i think this should solve the problem.
