How do I replace a RAM of Powerbook

I am new in the new world of Mac (I'm also a user of PC / Windows & Linux). I received my Powerbook 15". But I was wondering if the boost in RAM from 512 MB to 1 GB showed a real difference. I am not aware of hardware peripherals of the Powerbook. So please help me by providing some information that can be helpful for me while changing the RAM. Expecting detailed information about the specific topic.!

Re: How do I replace a RAM of Powerbook

About the RAM, it begins by asking: "Is what I've had enough?" or "Is what I am missing"?
    • So here goes how you think that there are "a little fair" in RAM? What are the main criteria or tricks inevitable "that certainly diagnose a memory shortage?
    • How do I know how much is missing? How to assess the quantity to add?
    • How to determine the type of RAM to install on his computer? Where to find this information? Is that another model may also be suitable (eg.: PC133 PC100 failing)?
    • Where to buy the AppleStore? In teaching specialist (Fnac, Darty ...)? In PC assemblers? On the Net?

Re: How do I replace a RAM of Powerbook

I would like to contribute some of my knowledge about the RAM of powerbook.
    • When you feel that the system (window, application launch, ...) starts a little slow or is slow from the start, then it may be time to add some RAM.
    • So basically, in iBook (because I do), I recommend 256 MB for the OS more responsive. Then if you want to be more comfortable because mania often video or graphics more "pro", 512 MB or more are not an evil, quite the contrary. It is always possible to add 1 GB of RAM but then one must ask if we would have done better to buy a powerbook, considering the price ....
    • On iBook G4, it takes the RAM SO-DIMM DDR-PC2100. The PC2700 also works match but will then be at the frequency of 2100.
    • On the AppleStore, everyone agrees on one point, it's expensive! So if it does not bother to mount am even when the order is a good solution but if you want to save as much to buy on the Internet for example.
    • OS X requested the Ram really when you want to run multiple applications at the same time and 512 RAM is not luxury. Then if they make fun of a good fluidity and current usage is: photo storage, internet and office, it will do the trick

Re: How do I replace a RAM of Powerbook

The problem with 256 MB of RAM, OS X and that between all the rest (iPhoto, iTunes, etc. etc. ...) the Ram is quickly saturated and thus each manipulation, the swap file is created and increases in volume. Absolutely not need 2 GB of RAM to be quiet when you do photo retouching even if the pictures are large. If you had not least 512MB of RAM in total, it would probably be enough that OS X handles its needs with this RAM wholly without swap files. Anyway I can tell you one thing, apart from editing video in Finalo Cut Pro, I've never had need of a swap file. (IBook 1.2 Ghz, 768 MB Ram)

Re: How do I replace a RAM of Powerbook

In Mac OS 9 (and earlier systems) the memory allocation was done in a "manual" and was therefore need to assign yourself (except for the Finder *) a memory for all your applications. So if you, for example, allocated 25 MB of RAM to "Appleworks" monopolized this application since its launch this 25 MB of RAM, although initially the limited use of this application, 15 MB was sufficient. This system had two major drawbacks: First there was obviously a waste of RAM, because the application did not necessarily need Constantly much RAM to run, but you were still obligated to provide sufficient memory to your applications, otherwise you could get an error message telling you that there was not enough memory for a particular operation in progress! So they had to find the right amount! It was certainly helped in part by the numerical reference "Recommended Maximum Memory" appears in the info window for each application, but we always allocated a bit more to be alone.

Re: How do I replace a RAM of Powerbook

Mac OS X, memory is managed in a completely dynamic. No need to rack their brains to find out how much RAM to allocate to a given application (in any case you can not do), because the system itself which is responsible for assigning, when T the correct amount of memory a given application in business. Thus, an application can be run out of memory, and OS X does spoils this by allocating too much memory to an application or another. If several applications are active at the same time, OS X knows to manage this situation by allocating the right amount of memory it takes for each of them!

Hello, what the PowerBook and the RAM is a piece of cake, open the lid to unscrew the base and withdraw after placing the ram in the single socket there. What is interesting is that you find out good features of the RAM to be installed, because you could have incompatibilities; my experience is that brand Kigston Value RAM is fine (I have a Powerbook). On the other hand, also I have a firewire DVD burner I use with Mac and PC, and although I use the Toast, I have not had any problems of incompatibility.
