Firmware for the Logitech Harmony remotes

I was tired of multiplying remotes and Ms was the operation of our home cinema complex to function (making the AV amp root-age the video too). In summary, the remote lets you create macros to turn on and configure the different devices and automatically eg watch a DVD set off the TV, DVD player, amplifier and sets the correct input on the TV and amp. But I want some more information about the firmware that should be useful for the Logitech Harmony remotes. Hope that you guys will help me as soon as possible.

Numerous manufacturers offer universal remotes, but Logitech Harmony have the advantage of supporting a large number of aircraft which is crucial for this type of product. In fact, to configure the Logitech Harmony remotes, simply connect the remote to a computer through a USB cable and select brands and models of all the amenities you wish to lead. For this, basically go to a specific web page of the site which contains a Logitech database of widespread hardware and updated continuously by Logitech with the latest items available on the market. Once the selection is done through an ActiveX module, it is possible to reassign the configuration to the remote place.

In addition to the transfer of the remote device-specific profiles to drive, this ActiveX can also check if the client software installed on the computer and the remote firmware are both up to date and, if appropriate, propose installing the latest version. To work, Harmony remotes are indeed equipped with a firmware (firmware) that can update various things to improve and fix bugs ... Until now available in version 4.x and 5.x firmware Logitech Harmony universal remotes just been updated to version 6.0. As often, unfortunately, Logitech does any information regarding this new update or even on the list of compatible remotes but they may think they are all (series 300, 500, 600, 700 and 800). This update of the firmware and client software is available for Windows 98/98 and SE/ME/2000/XP for Mac OS X.

Two months after the release of Windows Vista, many devices still do not have drivers for this new operating system. Logitech, for example, if driver SetPoint 3.30 for keyboards and mice and if the drivers QuickCam 10.5.1 out well in time, however, several brand products are always incompatible with Windows Vista in a partial or total. This is particularly the case of joysticks , keyboards, G11 and G15 speakers Z-10 io digital pens or Harmony remotes.

For multimedia Harmony remotes precisely, Logitech has announced on its website that a new software package includes applications and firmware will be available later in the month of April 2007 to provide support for Windows Vista 32 and 64bit . This new package Harmony Remote Software to bear all Harmony remotes, the last Harmony 1000 Advanced Universal Remote. Note, also, that the version 7.2.1 of the Harmony Remote software Software has just seen the day but it is clearly not yet the version compatible with Vista since according to Logitech only Windows 2000/XP are supported.

Once your equipment configured, the Harmony offers to create activities that are nothing more than functions of macros. For example, pressing the "watch TV" can, after a simple pressure switch on the TV, the TV decoder and amplifier. Subsequently, the television is placed on the right source, the decoder on the favorite channel amplifier and the TV source with the proper decoding. Nothing transcendent good you say ... However, since this remote also operates the light function, it is possible to create a macro, we have called "cinema" and starts the video projector, turns on the DVD player and amplifier while gradually reducing the brightness of the room. Effect guarantee! Of course, to arrive at this result, it is necessary that your room is equipped with X10 modules and any infrared or radio frequency information that turns your remote X10 powerline. In fact, it is fairly simple to install and this means a hundred euros (€ 50 for the drive to the south wind and over).

To the extent that the software does not find the correct IR code, it offers a configuration very similar or, alternatively, manually program your remote. To do this, simply place your remote against the Logitech Harmony 1100. Here, again, a step by step guide you and tells you the keys to program. This operation is tedious but can control all your devices, even the most exotic. This last operation was very convenient for our drive with Sony Playstation 3, which, remember, uses the standard Bluetooth for its remote. So we had to develop a USB / Bluetooth specific (twenty euro anyway) for ordering from our Harmony 1100. The result is correct given that it is all the playback functions of the PS3.
