Windows XP Recognizes Printer & Nothing Prints

Running windows xp and yesterday my printer stopped working. Got my backup plug and play printer and same thing. Got a coworkers printer and still same thing. Windows recognizes that the individual printers are there but nothing is ever spooled to the queue and nothing ever prints.

Have stopped and restarted the spool service and still nothing and have tried multiple usb ports to no avail. Basically i have no idea what is going on. Can anyone help?

If the printer is connected to an LPT port, check if you can print from a command prompt. If you can print from a command prompt, the parallel port driver and the hardware are working properly. This eliminates the GDI (Graphics Device Interface) and the driver as possible causes. If the output is printed on the printer from the dir command, the printer driver or printer configuration is probably the source of the problem.
