I think your Toshiba Notebook NB305-N410 is suffering with the driver problem. According to me the drivers in your laptop are not installed properly. Or the driver cd you have is corrupted. Hence I will suggest you to download the driver from its official site. I mean if your laptop is having Realtek then download it from Realtek official website.

Thanks for the reply; I have downloaded the Realtek HD Audio drivers from the official website of Realtek. It is a 32 bit executable file. After downloading the executable file I have installed it on my Toshiba Notebook NB305-N410 and now it is working fine. But when I bought the Toshiba Notebook NB305-N410 it was working fine.

I also noticed that the sound is terrible in this notebook. I just bought the Toshiba Notebook NB305-N410 on Saturday morning and debated whether the return. One of the reasons I chose this model, it has a built-in webcam. I think my wife can use it to Skype. Unfortunately, sound quality, make this impossible.
Let us see downloading the drivers may solve the problem.

If downloading the drivers is not solving your problem then follow these steps this will surely solve your problem.
Start --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Realtek HD Audio Manager --> Sound Effects tab, then click OK to save the setting change. Alternatively, on the Start --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Sound --> Speaker Properties (select Speakers then the Properties button) --> Enhancements tab, scroll down the list of sound effects to enable "Loudness Equalization" then select the OK button to save the setting changes.
