In place of using Portege A100 hard disk for your computer system I will suggest you to use the any IDE drive that has the capacity around 137 gigabyte and it will definitely support your computer configuration and for that you only need the 48 bit of LBA (Logical Block Addressing) support

    Hi there,
I am also concerned in upgrading a European Portege laptop hard drive. Well you are talking about the IDE drive does not recommend anything above 100 gigabyte, and you say anything up to 137 gigabyte would be ok. I also noticed there is a bios update from 2007 available for the Portege, although it is unclear whether this will help with an upgrade. So my question is basically is, can I go over 100gb and does it need to be a 4200 rpm drive or will it support higher rpm's like 5400/7200 also work? Any help hugely appreciated...

I have downloaded the BIOS update and it is a.exe file. But when I am checked the BIOS update instruction it was talking about making a floppy boot disk. According to me, this executable file must be self-extracting. However, it is always possible to flash a BIOS from an external boot, it must decompress into other files, surely at least one with instructions and maybe one that contains the history of changes. According to the specification, the computer does not come with a floppy drive. Most likely, you will be able to create a CD to upgrade the BIOS. The instructions will explain.

As far as I know, there is no limit 100 GB. If the 48-bit LBA is in the BIOS, enabled 137 GB limit, has been closed form. You find one that will be my 160 GB of sufficient evidence. Too bad that non-digital home PPA10x no U.S. counterparts. We can learn more. Let us see what kind of response you get from this post.
