    Difference between Windows 7 NTFS and Windows XP NTFS

    Hi everyone,
    I have both Windows XP and Windows 7 dual operating system configuration on my computer. My problem is that the two Operating System handles NTFS partitions differently. If i check any of my NTFS drives from the XP then it "corrects" some errors in the filesystem and opposite to windows 7. If i use just XP or just windows 7 there is no problem occurred, but whenever i try to switch between XP and 7 it always does some "corrections". I guess that this problem is occurred because they handle NTFS volumes differently. So i just wanted to know that is there any difference between windows 7 and windows xp NTFS system.

    As i ahve seent that although the XP founds that the drive is clean. Window 7fails to recognize its SID i.e Security IDentifiers from XP operating system. I think that there is nothing wrong with your drive. Windows 7 is just throwing a fit with your XP SIDs. So you don't need to worry if you don't like the problem which you are having than you can use any one of the operating system and can avoid the problem on your computer.

    I also have both of windows XP and Windows 7 operating system on my comptuer and i have change boot in the BIOS as you do, however I haven't got any of the problem that is relating to any "corrections" when i try to switch. The “corrections” is known as chkdsk applying that you are getting i think it pertains to the security descriptors, that is related to the differing security accounts and not to the different versions of NTFS.

    I think the best way to have the solution for your problem is that you need to avoid to run "chkdsk" from the Windows 7 on a Windows XP boot volume. And then i am sure that the problem will not be repeated and you can switch between the two operating system easily without any kind of corrections and also you can use them frequently when ever you want. Hope you understand the solution and try to have error free use of your operating system.

    To avoid this problem you need to always skip the "disk check" by "pressing any of the button" when it boots first. You can use the chkntfs command by which you can disable the volume from the auto check with the /x parameter.

    chkntfs [/x volume [...]]

    If you want to disable this on the C drive, then type:

    chkntfs /x c:

    So you can try to use this method by which i think the problem may be solved to a certain extant.

    Also you can disable the auto disk check via registry. Here are the registry files which needs to be disabled for the disk check upon the boot and save it as a .reg file. It is for Windows XP and not for windows 7. You can see the files which needs to be disabled:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager]
    "AutoChkTimeOut"=dword:0000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager]
    "BootExecute"=hex(7):61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,65,00,63,00,6b,00,20,\
    00,61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,6b,00,20,00,2a,00,00,00,00,00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    "SFCScan"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\cleanuppath]
    @=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,\
