Here can be an problem with the Toshiba Satellite L505 series can be low sound for system and for DVD/CD sound levels. Updating to the newest Toshiba audio drivers and then Enabling "Loudness Equalization" in the Realtek HD Audio Manager can help to increase the systems sound volume levels. I hope this can help you to resolve your problem.

It can be normal to hear a sound of the spin up of on the DVD/CD players and there can be basically a lag between the spin up and when the computer can launches an program if one can be configured to launch to play whatever on the DVD/CD. There can also be a audio spin down as well whenever the program or computer can stops an accessing the DVD/CD player.

If you can trying to play a CD/DVD that can being made for to store music in MP3, WAV, OGG or for another sound codec formats and So, cross check to make sure that the media player an application that can be used on the your computer can support this those formats. Also check out the DVD/CD for scratches or such as that can an impair the DVD/CD Player's an ability to read the disk correctly.
