Re: Specification of AMD chipset with integrated GPU 890GX

AMD has officially announced its new chipset comprises two chips dedicated to socket AM3: the 890GX / SB850. With a GPU reviewed and corrected, it is mainly due to its native support of not less than six S-ATA ports, 6 Gbps RAID management. The current trend among those who think the processor is to integrate advanced to the extreme. Thus, more and more components that were previously present in our motherboards are now part of our die same CPU.

However, the chipsets is resisting and give you a nice performance on most cases. If Intel are now finally free of graphics, it is absorbed by the processor, this is not the case with AMD. Thus, the father of the Athlon, Phenom and other Radeon decides to give us today the first-born of its new 800 series, known as the 890GX, which works with the new SB850 southbridge.

The Northbridge does not change greatly from 790GX with an evolution of the IGP which is now compatible with DirectX 10.1 and UVD2 (DirectX 10 and UVD for the 790GX). Its operating frequency is the same with 700Mhz. For full details of the integrated Radeon HD4290 know it uses a RV620 core with 40 shaders. AMD launches a new chipset for the Socket AM3: the 890GX, it is coupled with a new Southbridge: the SB850. Several new features are announced with the support of Sata 6Gbp / s and an IGP supporting DirectX 10.1 and the UVD2.

Southbridge SB850 now in version and adds support native Sata 6Gbp / s with no less than 6 ports directly available, 14 USB2, parallel port and an Ethernet controller are also integrated directly to SB850. The SB850 now integrates an Ethernet controller directly, in contrast to SB750, which was lacking. Asus M4A89TD Pro: Alternative model cited above, M4A89TD Pro incorporates the same characteristics except that we are here with the couple AMD 890FX and SB850.

For timing on the Asus 890GX provided us M4A89GTD Pro/USB3. This map in addition Sata 6GBp / s offers the USB3 but attention is not managed directly from the Northbridge or the Southbridge, but through an additional NEC chip. Depending on the CPU it is possible to reactivate the core or L3 cache, it obviously depends on the CPU's die. For example on a Phenom X3 It may be possible, provided it is clearly in working to reactivate the fourth heart. This technique can also activate the L3 cache of the Athlon II if he is based on a Phenom die II. If the technique works, we obviously have a chance of getting the right CPU.
