Lost 305gb of 500gb Disk Space in External HD

Please Help. I installed Vista on my external hard disk with atleast 500gb available space because Im' trying to fix the laptop. When vista did not work, I installed XP on the same hard disk automatically formatting and removing Vista.

When all OS did not run in my laptop due to some technical errors. I decided to plug my external hard disk to my desktop and format the hard disk by just right clicking on the mouse.

To my surprise, after formatting, I viewed the properties of my Ext HD and showed me an available space of 195GB. It clearly shows that I don't have file existing in the HD but the total number of GB is not correct.

Before it is 500gb but now its 195gb. Please help me and advice how to bring back the whole Gb. Thank You very much

@ deoWo..thanks for the reply.I already used Partition magic and successfully restored 465gb. The problem now is that I can not recover the whole 500gb.But atleast I got most.
