    Microphone Problem on Toshiba Satellite

Problem is that built in microphone is showing in Control Panel, Sound, Recording as not installed.
    Windows 7, 64 bit
    Toshiba Satelite L655-s5107
Has the latest Conexant Smart Audio HD Driver installed

Cannot figure out how to install try and install the built in microphone.

Discovered this issue when I tried to use an external Audio-Technica with an miniature jack through the sound input jack.

    Thoughts?

I guess that the problem is down to the settings within windows 7 for the microphone.

    1. In control panel - open sounds.
    2. After that click on the recording tab and ensure the correct device is selected.
    3. It should just read microphone, there can sometimes be other jacks or input methods selected as default.
    4. Have a play in this area, im sure youll sort it out.

That is my problem. When I go to Control Panel, Sound, Recording, it says "No audio devices are installed."

Question is how do I get it to install the built-in microphone?

Probably it is the drivers conflict. Such error appears in device manager when there is no compatible driver for the same. I'll suggest you to go to Toshiba drivers page, first note your device model number and download the compatible drivers from there, install it in your system and reboot. It should work.

    Success on my second try.
First try, I just downloaded the Conexant driver from Toshiba and ran it over the existing driver which was the same version. No change.
Second try, I went in to device manager and deleted the sound driver which made my computer look like no speakers or microphone.
After deleting the driver, I then reran the downloaded driver file, rebooted, and let it install devices.
I now have the on-board microphone and my external microphone showing, plus I gained a Headphone entry in the speaker area.
    Thank you very much.
