    Information on esata

What is esata and what technology is used behind this. I am not familiar with this. I had found a mac computer with this support. The charge for the same is a little bit higher. I am not able to figure out the exact feature of esata. Probably it belongs to storage media that is the hard drive but what are the features and limitation of this server.

Originally SATA (or Serial ATA) was intended as an internal or inside-the-box interface technology, bringing developed presentation and new characteristics to internal PC or consumer storage. With a faster interface and developed connectivity. Resourceful tech heads realized that this connectivity could be used in a comparable manner to USB and Firewire (IEEE 1394) interfaces as an external connectivity, and could probably be a budget alternative to SCSI for high-end storage.

They called the new external version or description as a eSATA, with up to 2m cable lengths and the prospect for multiple correlations to an external eSATA array. This would permit the users to take advantage of the assistance to the SATA interface without the space restraint of an internal only connectivity. eSATA is now recorded as an external standard, with exclusively defined cables, connectors, and signal necessity published as a standard in mid-2004.

The eSATA presents additional or supplementary presentation than existing solutions and is hot pluggable (units can be swapped simply without machine shutdown). Port development permits a single eSATA controller to control multiple drives, so large arrays of disks can be simply controlled from a single workstation. Using MacOS 10's RAID capability, you can simply generate large, fast right of entry storage; with SATA pricing video and audio professionals can now have presentation on a budget.

The eSATA does not come as customary on any Mac at the time of writing, so to take benefit of this new protocol you will necessitate to fit an eSATA host manager into a PCI/PCI-X, PCI Express or ExpressCard slot. This means that at contemporary only the PowerMac, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro series of Macs can use eSATA devices.

The eSATA is flattering the external storage explanation evasion for many video and audio specialists who necessitate high transfer speeds but do not desire to pay for SCSI. The eSATA enclosures use simple SATA internal drives to permit an approximately infinite amount of additional storage. Corrals such as the combination from sonnet permit up to 5 drives to be associated to your machine in one convenient corral, and controlled from a single eSATA controller - a 4 port controller card can therefore control up to 20 drives.
