how i can partition a new hdd after fitting into the computer
is there any way this can be done using the hdd itself.

You will need a bootable disc of any operating system that you intend to install. While you advance at the OS installation stages, you will get a prompt to partition your new disk and install the OS in appropriate partition. There's no way you can partition the hard disk from itself without an OS installed on it. You can do it this way. Connect your new hard disk to another working computer and from here partition your hard disk...

According to me, you can do the partition of your hard disk either by using the Windows operating system bootable CD or directly through the DOS command prompt. And considering the that you are normal/ end-user with minimum of computer knowledge, would suggest you to use the Windows Operating System CD bootable. Hope you will be able to do partition correctly.

you will need a bootable CD to start with , Bootable Floppy disk is old technique now. Once you boot the PC with the CD, half the work is done, just answer the questions which are asked while the setup moves forward,
