Well yes you can connect SSD to your laptop. I don't think there will be any problem with that. And there is a huge difference between an SSD and SATA HDD. More information on Solid State Drive (SSD) is as follows : A solid-state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data. An SSD emulates a hard disk drive interface, thus easily replacing it in most applications. An SSD using SRAM or DRAM (instead of flash memory) is often called a RAM-drive, not to be confused with a RAM disk. With no moving parts, solid-state drives are less fragile than hard disks and are also silent (unless a cooling fan is used); as there are no mechanical delays, they usually enjoy low access time and latency. You can probably use one but they are extremely expensive compared to SATA HDD's. |

Unlike with the older hard disks, there is no rotating disc, which means that the accessing time for specific information at any given time is smaller than with the older discs. Also, mechanical mistakes are less likely to happen. Problem is, it is also more expensive. I guess you should be able to get one in your laptop. I don't know where exactly , though, and I'm not going to guess. Because I myself have not used it, so will not like to comment more on that. |

Thanks guys, thanks a lot for those useful and information filled response. Well I am thinking for getting an SSD for sure in few days. But can some one tell me like where exactly should I connect it to my Laptop. Does it work through USB or have to connect it on PCMCIA port? Any suggestions please. |

You will have to connect SSD on a PCMCIA port. Even I got an 80 GB SSD for $212 US. They are getting cheaper now - make sure you buy a second generation one that has TRIM (wiper.exe) support and uses Indilix controller - steer clear of JMicron controllers. It is awesomely fast and quick the speed is 170 MB/sec read and 140 MB/sec write. You should get one if you want your system to be faster.

Well before you go on to buy an SSD have a look at it Advantages and Disadvantages. Because you are going to put a lot of money in that. Following are some important and interesting facts of SSD : Flash-memory cells have limited lifetimes and will often wear out after 1,000 to 10,000 write cycles. As a result of wear leveling and write combining, the performance of SSD's degrades as you use it. DRAM-based SSD's require more power than hard disks, when operating; they still use power when the computer is turned off, while hard disks do not.
