Intel 2200bg network adapter not working in Windows 7

Hi, I have a Dell Lattitude 810 laptop which was originally running on Windows XP. I recently upgraded the operating system to Windows 7 and everything is working fine expect for my network adapter. The laptop has a Intel 2200bg Network adapter which is not working in Windows 7. Whenever i try to connect to any network, it says no connections are available. Is it because of some device compatibility issue? Is this adapter not supported by Windows 7?
    Please help

Was this adapter working fine with the previously installed operating system? If yes then check the drivers installed for the adapters. Devices don't work properly if the correct drivers are not installed. To check if the current installed drivers are working, Go to device manager and Right click on Network adapters. Select properties and check the status of the device. If the status says the device is working fine then update the drivers and if the status says the device is not working properly then uninstall the drivers. Download latest available drivers for the model of your Network adapter and the operating system you are using. Installing latest drivers will solve your problem.

May be the Network adapter is faulty and needs to replaced. Windows 7 comes with number of preloaded drivers for many devices which are installed automatically when the device is connected. As the wireless adapter has come with the laptop by default, it must have been installed automatically when the system boots. Hence there is no driver compatibility issue. To check if the adapter is faulty or not, go to Device manager and Highlight Network adapter. Now right click on it and select properties. Now check the status of the device. If the status shows "This device is working properly" then there is some problem with the Network adaptor it self and needs to be replaced.

Check if the Network Interface card is working properly or not. Wireless adapter communicates with the network through the Network interface card. If the Network interface card itself is faulty then the wireless adapter will not be able to communicate with the network at all. Try connecting the laptop to the network by using wired connection and see if the wired network works properly or not. If the NIC card is working properly, the wired connection should work. If the wired connection is also not working then the NIC needs to be replaced.

There is no need to connect the laptop to a wired network just to check if the NIC is working or not. Every Network card comes with an built in self test address which can be used for checking the Network card. The default self test address is 127.0.0.1 . To check the network card using the self test address, Click on Start menu and select Run. Now type "Ping 127.0.0.1" in the Run tab. Now a command prompt window will open which will show the no of packets sent and received by the network card. It will also show no of errors which occurred while sending or receiving the data packets. For a properly working card the error is zero. If there is any error in sending and receiving the data, the card is faulty and needs to replaced.

Have you checked the Network settings on your laptop? If the network setting on the laptop is not proper then it wont be able to access the wireless network. Open the Network connections and Right click on the LAN. Now select properties and select TCP/IP utilities. Now select Properties. Now if there are any entries in the default gateway tab or in preferred DNS tab, just remove them and keep it blank. Now save the settings and click Ok. Now turn on the Wifi and see if it detects all the available networks. It should now detect all the available networks. Select and connect the network you wish to connect from the available network list. If the laptop still does not detect any network then check the signal strength in the area which you are trying to use Wifi.
