    Front microphone/line-in not working

    Hello;

I have an EliteGroup motherboard. For all the sound works fine when I connect my headphones on backpenal. As soon as I plug my headphone output on front and I tested my headphones, The audio output works fine but the microphone doesn't works. I checked the configuration in the application that comes with my driver, I tested it in system control panel, my microphone still does not respond. Can you help me please? I'm using windows xp.

    Thank you

Check if the cable from the front is well connected to your sound card, or your motherboard.

The microphone works well when you plug it in the back? If so have you looked into the manager (not the windows but in that of the Realtek sound card type) because of both the 2 inputs works on two different settings.

First test your microphone at friend's pc and by connecting it i the back panel of your pc. If still you find it not working then it can be your sound card issue. . And also don't forget to update drivers for your sound card.

Have you installed the latest drivers for your motherboard and sound card? First download and install the latest drivers from manufacturer website. If you have installed the add-on sound card then remove it and test your microphone on the onboard sound card comes with your motherboard. If it works then its the onboard sound card faulty and if yuo don't have onboard sound card and its not working only with your motherboard then , you might want to replace it to work with microphone, or buy one onboard sound card.

    Testing microphone

To test if your microphone is working or not, do the following:

    1. Click Start, and then Control Panel.
    2. Click Hardware and Sounds, and then click Managing audio devices...
    3. Click the Recording tab.
    4. To test the microphone, speak into it. :
      • If the gray bars next to the device name change to green, this device is active and an audio signal is being passed through the microphone or line-in port.
      • If the gray bars remain gray and inactive, the device is not recognizing a signal. Leave the recording tab open and go to the next step.

    Line-In or Mic-In option Settings

Did you do any hardware changes inside your pc cabinet? It is possible the cable between the front ports and the sound card has become disconnected. please ensure that the correct Line-In or Mic-In option is selected in your motherboard:
    1. Line-In : Line-In at the rear FlexiJack
    2. Line-In 2 : Line-In at the front drive panel
    3. Mic-In : Mic-In at the rear FlexiJack
    4. Mic-In 2 : Mic-In at the front drive panel
