| Problem with HP C5280 printer
Hello friends, I have an HP C5280 printer which is directly connected to my desktop computer which has Windows Xp installed on it. From few days the printer is giving trouble while printing documents. Whenever i give a print command an error message saying "Refer to printer documentation" appears with a caution sign. I tried to restart the printer but still no luck, it is giving the same error again again. Any idea on this issue are welcome. |

Start with basic troubleshooting step. Most of the problems that arise with printers are associated with drivers. Check if the drivers for the printer are working properly from device manager. If there is caution sign besides it try to troubleshoot it by clicking on troubleshoot button inside properties tab. Follow the onscreen instruction which will guide you will through the process. Uninstall the drivers again if required and get it updated to latest version.

Check the USB cord connecting the printer and computer. This type of problem can arise if the computer is not able to communicate with the printer properly which is possible because of a faulty connecting wire. Try to change the port on which the printer is connected as the possibility of the port being faulty is cannot be neglected. If all the connections and the ports are fine then take the printer to nearest service center as there may be a hardware problem. |

I was also facing the same problem with my HP printer and tried every possible way to solve it but none helped. Finally I followed the some steps which were suggested to me by my friend which actually worked. Hope they work for you too. Power on the printer--While keeping the power on pull the power cord from the printer while pressing and holding down the power button at the same time --Keep holding the power button for atleast 30 seconds and then plug in the power cord again.--Now the printer will reconfigure itself. After reconfiguration the printer will work fine. |

Your printer is not able to access the cartridges hence it is giving such error. Remove the cartridges and clean the connecting area on the printer with a clean dry cloth. Also see if the contacts on both printer and cartridges are proper or not. Clean the contacts on the the cartridges with a clean cloth and alcohol. Now replace the cartridges back to there slots and restart the printer. Now try to print something, it will work. |

Check if the cartridges have some ink left on them and get them refilled if necessary. This error arises mostly if the cartridge is empty or if the printer is not able to access them. The muzzle on the cartridges sometimes get choked up which leads to failure of the cartridge. Check if the cartridges if there muzzle is blocked and clean them if required. If the muzzle or the contacts are damaged more than repairable then get the cartridges replaced.
