The differences between P35 Express and X38 are confined at the MCH (Northbridge), since only the latter differs. ICH side, there are indeed version 9 which is connected to X38 via a DMI bus to 2GB / s (1GB / s in each direction). It manages the basic 4-port PCI Express has an integrated Gigabit Ethernet controller and supports 4 SATA AHCI type 3 Gbps. In its DH manages a total of 6 SATA, while the R version available can handle on its 6-port SATA Matrix Storage (RAID 0/1/5/10), but also two new, Rapid Recovery and Turbo Memory.

The board is also compatible to the SATA ports ICH9-R are Port Multiplier and can therefore via additional chip can be split to manage multiple devices. But rather if you are interested in differences between X38 and P35 Express then here are some tips. On the latter, the management of PCI Express is limited to a single PCI-Express x16. Indeed, the cards are equipped with two PCI-Express x16 actually use a first port connected to the MCH, which is wired in x16, and a second related to ICH, which is wired x4. The performance of this board is pretty nice.

With the X38 Intel has decided to work extra hard, because on the one hand he manages a total of 32 PCI Express lanes, 2 ports of 16 lines and other lines are the standard 2.0. In version 2.0, PCI-Express sees its speed doubled to 500 Mb / s data rate per link in each direction, 8 GB / s port on x16. In all cases, initially the performance gain will not exist in common use. Other differences between P35 and X38 are thinner and less documented. Thus, Intel talks about a memory controller and improved states have withdrawn an "overspeed protection" features on the P35.

ASUSTeK has been able to provide P53E Deluxe version 1.03g. The card shows the characteristics of X38, and ASUSTeK as usual added some additional chips: a controller provided by Agere Firewire, two Gigabit Ethernet controller, a PCI Realtek and Marvell PCI-E, ASUS has decided not to use the integrated chipset and JMicron chip for managing a PATA port and two eSATA ports. It is now fashionable, cool the card is completely passive, provided by a system of heat pipes and copper sinks.

The dismantling of this system suggests a new level chipset, since it is covered with IHS. The IHS has two goals, first spread the heat dissipated by the chip on a larger area, and also protect in case of mounting a waterblock indelicate example. Once the card up and started, what impresses is the amount of adjustments offered by the bios and their finesse. Thus, in addition to numerous settings memories - a little too well - ASUS offers direct access to the FSB Strap and various voltages very precisely. For example, the northbridge varies between 1.25 and 1.91v increments of 0.02v.

The bios is compatible with the Intel Extreme Memory, which is an extension of SPD of DDR3 memory to accommodate more advanced settings. The manufacturers of memory may well provide a setting SPD base for their bars, and a second set of more aggressive setting for hackers. Note that they are accustomed to diving into the settings of their memory, the value of such a function is limited to our eyes.
