    C is dirty

    Hi everyone,

I really need help with this as nothing seems to work for me.
Here are the steps I take and their results:
    I go into Command Prompt:

fsutil dirty query c: -> Volume - c: is Dirty

chkdsk c: /f -> The type of file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? <Y/N>

I typed Y and pressed enter

Then is came up that : chkdsk could not schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts.

    What do I do now?

Before you go fixing file system errors or running check disk or defrag you need to make sure you have enough free space for windows memory paging system. Autochk.exe is a version of Chkdsk that runs only before Windows XP
starts. The best way is to just let it run through its cycle. After the run through and it still continues on startup open command prompt type: CHKntfs /X C: press enter key.
