Sony USB mouse detection issues

HI. I have purchased a Sony usb mouse recently. I have a Usb port on my cpu. I had a serial port scroll mouse before but now I switched to Usb mouse. the thing is I am not able to use my mouse well. It is not getting detected. It gives a problem as device not recognized. Also sometimes it gets detected and freezes after a period of time. What can be the problem? Please provide me the solution. Thank you.

You need to check out whether your system is compatible with Usb mouse. your system might be old and it might have the feature to support the modern Usb mouse.
