    Hi,

If you are not copy protected, and is a DVD, then you should check that the source and destination DVD DVD-R are the same type of disk, and that the drive can write that kind of record. There are disc standard DVD and dual layer discs. The dual-layer discs are about twice the capacity of a standard disk. So if you're trying to copy a dual layer disc on a standard DVD disc, then it will not work.

If your having with a DVD, then you can you know if this is a single-layer disc to see how big the capacity is reported in the Finder. Click the disk on the desktop and then click "Get Info". And, of course, the obvious, do not try to copy a CD to a DVD or a DVD on a CD.

Try the following steps for creating a duplicate disk :

    1. Insert the CD or DVD into the optical drive of your computer and select it from the list of disks and volumes.
    2. Select File> New> "Disk Image from (name of the disc)."
    3. Type a name for the disk image
    4. Select "Compression" read / write, "or" DVD / CD master "from the pop-Image Format menu.
    5. To create a disc that can be used to boot your computer, select "DVD / CD master". Otherwise, select "compressed" to create a smaller disk image, and select "read / write" to create a disk image that is faster to create and open.
    6. Click Save.
    7. When creating the disk image finishes, eject the original CD or DVD.
    8. Select the disk image in the list and choose Images> Burn,
    9. When the dialog appears Burn Disc, insert a blank CD or DVD, and click Save.

If you insert a DVD into your Mac, then try to make a copy of it using the Duplicate command in the Finder's File menu, an "error -8058" alert may appear, and you can not eject the disc.

    1. Try the Eject key to eject the disc. If that fails, restart the computer, then hold down the mouse button until the disc is ejected.
    2. Use Disk Utility to duplicate a disk, rather than in the Finder.
