    USB Autoplay not working

    Hi,

When I connect a USB device (camera, USB drive, etc) no longer a window appears with options, what to do?? The camera used to always open the scanner and camera wizard, the USB drive if you open a folder to view files. I went to the properties (AutoPlay tab) for selected devices and what I do, but still does not.

I have also tried to restore the default values, but still does nothing. The computer always use to make the sound when you connect the device and recognize it, but nothing more.

In Windows XP, there is a default setup, when you insert a USB drive. You can check whether this default configuration is set by:
Insert the USB device> open My Computer> right click the device> Properties. If no Autoplay tab then this is the default.

    To change the default:
Click Start / Run / gpedit.msc / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Right-click the System folder. Go to your listings in the right pane to disable AutoPlay. click it and select properties disable bullet. Click the Explain tab to read about it.

Go to User Configuration folder itself and select Disable well.

Your USB should work as soon as gpedit closes. I insert the USB.

Perhaps the reason why his work is not because they are not ejected in the right way from the notification area or safely delete by right clicking the the drive and click Delete safely from the shortcut menu.

    To turn On Autoplay :

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    2. Type regedit, and then click OK.

    3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

    4. Double-click Autorun and see whether a zero or a one is displayed in the Value data box.
    * If the value for Autorun is 1, go to step 5.
    * If the value for Autorun is 0, right-click Autorun, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

    5. Locate and then click the following subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    6. Double-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun to see its value. If the value is 0xb5, the AutoRun feature for CD-ROMs is turned off. To turn on the AutoRun feature, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun.
    2. Click Modify.
    3. In the Value data box, type 91.
    4. Select Hexadecimal, and then click OK.

    7. Exit Registry Editor.

    Re: USB Autoplay not working

How about for Windows 7? I have no autoplay functioning in Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I followed the tutorial above, but Win 7 differed a little and /Explorer was not in /Policies, they were separate. Anyway I went to /Explorer and two entries were there, neither with any value set. Unsure what to do..?
Thanks (my autoplay won't work for anything, not USB, not CD/DVD ROM, not Dig Cams, not SD cards etc). Worked before on same OS but had to reinstal fresh and hasn't worked on this the fresh install
'n00b' is just 'boon' spelled backwards. We all had to start somewhere.
