    Information about NZXT Phantom

In our view, the Americans have done around NZXT with the design of the Phantom is a small revolution. But you have the shape of this big-Towers may also, as many corners and edges and asymmetry are not for everyone. The front is (except for a small logo of the manufacturer) completely closed and so the maximum of five 5.25" drive bays can be achieved only when the front door is opened. Behind the chutes are covered with black panels, each with shall be separated a small shift mechanism from the chassis. If a drive once no longer needed and developed, each bay can be closed again. At the lower end is an air intake out asymmetrically, behind which is an optional additional 140-mm fans are attached.

    Delivery and data

    • Material: Steel with plastic attachments
    • Dimensions: approx 541 x 222 x 624 mm (H x W x D)
    • Weight: about 11 kg
    • Five 5.25" front drive bays (external)
    • Seven 3.5" / 2.5" HDD bays (internal)
    • A 200-mm LED fan in the lid, a 120-mm fan on the rear wall and two 120-mm fan on the left side wall (with fan speed monitoring and control)
    • Motherboard Form Factor: ATX, E-ATX, FW, Mini-ITX
    • Two USB 2.0 as well as one eSATA, microphone and headphone port in the lid

At the front end of the cover is next to the default port kit, both which two USB 2.0 and each includes one eSATA, microphone and speaker connection, a fan controller. This allows it to regulate the fan of each area individually 7:00 to 12:00 volts continuously. As a special display during the operation, a blue status LED, which fan is currently active. In addition to the Port-kit, the power and reset switches are located which have a very precise pressure point. At the far end of the lid is a well-lit blue 200mm LED fan, which, together with a second optional fan, which ensures the heat formed in the interior to convey to the outside. For whom the lights of the fan is too cheesy, this can turn off the back of the phantom.

The rear part of the housing waiting with the standard structure (consisting of ATX panel, together with 120-mm fan, seven slot aperture and space for a power supply at the lower end).

Thus an external water cooling can be operated, there are four tube grommets are available. The two side walls are bolted with six thumb screws, two of these screws can be adjusted via a spring mechanism in its height. This approach helps that the installation of the side walls is much easier uncontroversial because they, unlike most other cases, not to the entire chassis, but only put forward at the front are. Thus, the center screw fixed quickly without having it completely screwed. A look at the case shows a dust filter on the power supply, so that can operate both the power supply to the fan in the direction of the interior and toward the ground without excessively contaminated the interior. In addition, the phantom has no conventional feet but is at large rubberized surfaces so that vibrations from the interior to be disclosed only slightly from the floor.

Inside, the user expects the same paint that adorns the outer shell - is that in all three color variants of the housing of the case. Some some elements such as the cable guides of the motherboard tray, or the brackets for the seven 3.5" hard drives in black are sold. The interior is equipped not only with many concepts that you would expect in a case of this price range, NZXT has implemented some of them on its own way. Thus, the power supply is based on four pillars made of rubber, so that will be transferred at this point no vibration to the case - sadly lacking in this case also a boost for the power supply to the back wall. Before the power supply is the first hard drive cage that two of the seven discs in 3.5 - can hold or even 2.5-inch format. At least in the larger specimens are required no tools to install the hard drives, and it will be introduced simultaneously using this system with a vibration isolation. Another cage for five storage media located at the front end and establishes the connection to the overlying drive bay.

No tools can all five 5.25" drives can be installed. Similar systems, but in a different form, also offer many other case manufacturers and installation of the drive is so much easier and faster. So there is order in the interior, all cable be the power supply through an opening in the motherboard tray out from the inside out. The four coated bushings next to the Main Board and that opening it then offer the possibility of all cables to the appropriate place back again. intermediate tray and outer wall, there is ample room so that the side wall of the underlying cable should not be baggy. To cool the hardware built for a total of four fans, two of which the two hard drive cages supplied with fresh air. The air flow through the corresponding areas of perforated sheet metal in the right side wall out, so that warm air is mostly directly transported back out of the case. The other two fans that in the cover and another at the rear for exhaust. Before the 200-mm LED fan in the lid is still an additional opening ready for a same size model. When delivered, this opening is not with a fan but instead equipped with a dust filter, so the interior does not unnecessarily dirty. To install the two optional fans - in the cover and in the front - the front and the entire lid with a clip system to be removed. Under the cover to hide the wiring of the port kits and fan control. Here, individual cables that are not necessary, be removed.

Not only the installation of our hardware was a breeze, even during the operation makes the NZXT Phantom looks good. The aforementioned status lights on the fan control, and the illustrations make sure that always exactly the right fan is regulated. Also, the cables can be laid well behind the motherboard tray. This was due to an optional sleeve cable, which were additional to us in their part. With a little light inside the big tower can be in addition to their own wishes. To the overall package we tested included a 750 watt power supply from NZXTs "Hale Power 90 +" series. To this end, there will soon be a separate test, however, was the first subjective impression from the perspective of a housing-editor is consistently good. Although the cables are quite stiff, but the power adapter scores with a high Nutzgrad and low noise. In our survey, for the course for current graphics cards will take over the NZXT sprout once the lead. With 36.6 inches still one or two millimeters is more available than the competition.

The volume measurements were made with a "V Craft Digital Sound Level Meter 320" carried out measures the sound level in the range of 30 to 120 decibels. The overall volume of the measuring room was subjectively perceived silence below the measurement range, ie less than 30 decibels. The distance was half a meter in this case - to the usual minimum distance between the user and system to get close. The fans of the Phantom NZXT act very balanced. First, the big tower takes in our 5V ranking almost everywhere, the top position, on the other hand moves the Phantom of the operation at twelve volts in the lower middle. This constellation ensures that benefit may be made available when it is needed, otherwise subjective and almost silence reigns. Who voluntarily surrendered to the fan controller and its fans can automatically regulate through its Main Board could conceive at this point a very silent machine that has enough power for extended periods at full load.
