Dell Error m1004

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP Pro. I receive the error code M1004 due to which, about every hour and my computer will shut downs. I think, it is something to do with over heating. Any way to get rid of this? Does anyone have a suggestion on removing this M1004 error code?

Pull the hard drive out from the computer and put it in another computer as a slave drive or buy a USB box and put the hard drive there and you will be able to copy the pictures and any other valuable information. Then either buy a new drive (as it can be bad) or put it back and boot the XP CD, format and reinstall. If this does not work then, if the system is under warranty, have the mainboard replaced.

Error code "M1004" appears to refer to overheating. Have you checked that all fans in the laptop? Any airway blocked by dust and dirt, etc? Have you tried with the CPU and the heatsink at all? You could try resetting the CPU, clean contact surfaces of the CPU and heat sink, and then apply a thin layer of heatsink compound.

I had the same problem with my dell laptop. It occurred to me that if the laptop thought it was overheating, then it would be his fans at high speed. You may also have reduced clock speed in response to the perception that the overheating that caused delays. I downloaded and installed the new BIOS, restart the laptop.
