Ultra DMA is an Acronym for Ultra Direct Memory Access. This is a method of transferring data from the hard drive and memory, with a flow rate of 33 Mb/s. as i said Ultra DMA is an architecture for maximum throughput of 33 Mb/s for IDE hard disks or 133 MB/s for the latest version. It is understood that the motherboard should recent enough to support this architecture and to achieve such a flow.

To enable Ultra DMA on you hard disk and/or your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, follow these steps:

    2. In the Windows Control Panel, double-click the System icon.
    3. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click the Device Manager button.
    5. Double click on IDE ATA / ATAPI.
    6. Double click Primary IDE Channel.
    7. In the System Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
    8. In the Device 0 section, change the mode of transfer through DMA if available.
    9. Click the OK button to activate the DMA mode.
    10. Repeat these steps for the secondary IDE channel.

Re: What is ultra dma , how to enable it

To enable the Ultra DMA, open the registry editor (Start / Run / regedit)

    Browse yourself to this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/(4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)/0000

Create a DWORD key named "EnableUDMA66" and assign the value "1"

Ultra DMA will be considered at the next start.
