Using 20 pin power supply on 24 pin motherboard

I'm having an ASRock 939 Dual Series motherboard. Recently i had bought a new Enermax 535W FMA power supply that has a 20 pin plug. The power supply has a 20 pin connector with a 4 pin ADD ON clip. So, i would like to know that can i the use 20 pin power supply on 24 pin motherboard without doing any damage? Does any body have any idea about it? Kindly provide me the correct information on the above issue.

Your 20 pin power connector should work fine in the 24 pin slot. The extra four pins actually supply a second 12V rail to prevent too much amperage draw on one wire. The new spec calls for one 12V for the CPU, and the second for the motherboard and other peripherals.

Check your motherboard manual. Some will work OK, but many of the new ones REQUIRE 24-pin power supplies for stable operation. I think you need a 24 pin connector, however, I have seen some people say that it will work with a 20 pin connector if you don't center it but offset it to one side.

All you need to do is get an adapter for the 24pin connector. You should be able to. I upgraded a few months ago and the new board had a 24 pin connector. You will need a 24 to 20 pin converter we use them all the time at work. But first check your PSU is not the type that can come apart and become a 20 pin connector a lot of them you can slide off the extra 4 pins.
