startech sat2510bu2 sata enclosure kit
host computer running xp

hard drive has vista and ubuntu with hdd password

drive detected in bios
not detected in disk management
what can i do to get it to detect so i can format

Check the cable, and also make sure you select the correct mode (USB or SATA) on your external HDD. , When you connect your usb hard disk or any other usb device you will be asked for the driver.Choose "Install from a list or a Specific location" click next. Then type C:\WINDOWS\inf in the box "Include this location in the search.

The problem may be hard disk partition format that may be compatible with linux format that is ext3 so you will need to convert it ..
