Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 missing stereo mix

I have Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows Vista and the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 sound card installed on it. My sound card is missing stereo mix or line-in and there is no other recording input to choose from. I have checked the settings but the only recording device listed is the microphone. How do I solve this problem?

It seems to me drivers issue: either corrupted or missing. Try re-installing your sound drivers. Can you find the device on your Device Manager and is there any yellow exclamation mark? Also I would suggest you to upgrade your Windows to avoid any inconvenience.

Right click on the speaker icon on the system tray, and select "Recording Devices". Now make sure you have the "Recording" tab selected and in the middle of the empty area, right click and select "Show Disabled Devices". You will see the stereo mix device appear. You can activate it, by right clicking on it and selecting Activate.

  • Download the latest driver from Realtek
  • Extract it in a directory
  • Go to the driver tab of the properties of your sound card.
  • Choose "Update the driver".
  • Show to Windows the path to the correct Vista directory driver.
  • The driver is then installed. Control that that is OK by controlling the driver provider's name.
  • Now, the "Stereo Mixer" should be present in the record options.

the option for show disabled devices is shown if you right click anywhere on the recording devices...but it probably wont help. i have the same sound card as you and the same problem. show disabled divices IS checked but stereo mix still doesnt show up. just the mic. and thats after just installing the newest driver update.
