How to mute dial up modem

Hi,
I have windows XP installed on my computer. I have a dial up connection with a modem. I can connect to the internet and everything is working fine. But it creates sounds when crating connection. How to mute this sound? Anyone?

Start using broadband connection from now. Try following:

• Click on Start
• Go to Control Panel
• Double click on Network Connection
• Right click on you connection
• Then go to Properties
• Click Configure on General tab
• Remove the tick on the "Enable modem speaker"

When your modem is connecting to the internet it creates sound which is called handshake. It is audio version of the data being sent out by the modem to be make the connection to whatever is providing the connection to the internet. AT command in the dial string to turn the speaker off. Check if there are any settings in the modem options for audio.

Follow the steps given below to mute the sound of your modem:

• Click Start
• Then click on Control Panel
• Double click the Phone and Modems Options
• Go to Modems tab
• Click the Properties button
• Mute the sound under Volume option
• Click OK
