The D50 is not compatible with SDHC (high capacity) cards, so 2GB may be the upper limit.Anyway, you can possibly format SDHC cards on a computer and then use them on a D50, but it is safer to stick with 2G or smaller cards.
It suppose to be 2GB.The D50 doesn't go with SDHC cards and Nikon has verified that cards up to 2GB will be fine in the D50.Since the D50 was compatible with FAT32 that it would obvioully work with 4GB cards. But a 4GB SDHC card is fully unrecognized as i went for a test . The green LED that should light for a fraction of a second when a new card is installed and confirmed by the camera stayed on for 15 or 20 seconds.A Transcend 150x 4GB SD card seemed to work, as the green LED b lipped on and off quickly when inserted, as a 2GB card does. But the D50 can't format the card. That same 4GB SD card has worked well a Canon A620 which has no trouble formatting it.
The D50 is not compatible with SDHC (high capacity) while the D80 will do. So, technically, you can't use 4G SD cards on the D50.Anyway,if you format a 4G card elsewhere, you can use it on the D50.I suppose that I'll get another 4GB card or two if Adorama is still selling them. Then all I'll need to do when shooting for extended periods away from home is bring the A620 along where it will serve not only as an emergency backup camera but an emergency SD formatter as well
