| Archival Blank DVD is best for use
Hi, I want to know that which is the best DVD to use. There are number of products in the market. I had studied somewhere that Archival Gold DVD's are the best to use. Is this true. If yes then are they really reliable to hold data for a long time. What are the other brands which offers you a more reliable data handling. |

It is true that Archival Gold DVD gives you a long term storage uses. The DVD's are designed on the need of high quality and long term storage of datas. This specifically suited for storing photos and media. The Archival disc are called as long life disc. They saves you data and preserve them for a long period. Even years. Test has proved that the disc can hold your data for 300 years if preserved properly and does not cause any physical damage. They are costly too. |

Have you ever tried to find out that how does the Archival DVD's store your data. Here is the answer for that. The Archival DVD R hava a 24 Karat Gold layer. This layer gives a maximum protection form chemical breakdown. This is one the most common cause of a disc failure. If you go on the site of MAM archival DVD you can see some tables and a explanation which defines the technology. This type of DVD's are considered as very long lasting and durable. |

I am using Verbatim. I think this one is the best brand to buy. It is a very popular and reasonably cheap product which gives you a very long lasting disc life. I had never faced problem form the disc which I have. Verbatim disc comes in 4X, 4X mini, 4X inkjet and 8X speed. I am using this disc from a long time and never faced problem. |

It's not so much the brand that's important, it's where the media was manufactured. The best company is Taiyo Yuden, because of their quality control, and they are the recordable DVD manufacturer in Japan (unless a new one has popped up in the last few years). The problem with going by the brand, is say Sony for example, sometimes their discs are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden in Japan, and then branded as Sony discs, and sometimes they're manufactured in an inferior plant, with low quality control standards, in Taiwan, and then labeled and branded as sony. Because of this, going by the brand name is usually not reliable. I now ALWAYS only buy blank media that comes from Japan, and I have NEVER had a problem with any of the media from japan. Where as I've had several problems with media that was made in other countries. |
