A DVD+R is a write-once optical disc with 4.7 GB or 4.377.DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 89% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs. The DVD+R format is divergent from the DVD-R format. Hybrid drives that can handle both, often labeled DVD±RW, are very popular since there is not a single standard for recordable DVDs.DVD-R is a DVD recordable format. A DVD-R typically has a storage capacity of 4.71 GB , where A DVD-RW disc is a rewritable optical disc with equal storage capacity .

Note that most DVD recorders currently available in stores are multi-standard (even if they also manage SuperMulti format DVD-RAM) meaning they burn both DVD + R media and DVD + RW media as DVD-R and DVD-RW, something that was not the case at the onset of the first DVD. Icing on the cake, the latest generation of DVD burners also support writing to dual layer media and store 8.5 GB of data on DVD + R DL or DVD-R DL as DVD + R / + RW and DVD-R/RW (single) were limited to a storage capacity of 4.7 GB

sometimes it may be necessary to update the firmware of the DVD-ROM so that it can read new types of media. We have indeed found that sometimes DVD-ROM drives are unable to read certain types of original discs DVDs (DVD-R/RW, DVD + R / RW or DVD + R DL), while it was not their problem any more after flashing the firmware. If your drive is uncooperative with the disc, we recommend that you update its firmware.
