- Right-click My Computer
- Click on Properties
- Click on the Hardware tab
- Click on the Device Manager button
- Scroll down as needed until you see Universal Serial Bus Controllers
- Expand that by clicking on the boxed plus sign in front of Universal Serial Bus Controllers
- Notethe highlighted line: "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller". While the exact text may vary, the key is the word "Enhanced".
- If it's "Enhanced", it's USB 2.0. If it's not, then it's USB 1.x.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (3.6GHz, 1.44v) with TR Ultra 120E,
Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6 v1.1, 4GB G.Skill PI 1066 5-5-5-15 2.1v ,
Powercolor ATI HD4870X2 2GB, 4x SATA2 500GB Samsung HDD RAID 10,
Creative X-Fi, Dell 2408WFP A01 24" LCD,
Acer P221w 22" LCD,

Well it is quiet simple. Go to your Windows Desktop. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Go to Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button. Look for "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and expand it. You will get a list of entries here. If you find an entry similar to "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller", then it is USB 2.0 port. The key point here is "Enhanced" which represents USB 2.0.
So if just one of these says "enhanced" then all ports are 2.0? Please advise. Thanks.
Have you checked in the BIOS to make sure USB ports are enabled ? USB 2.0 ports are on the back of the case. You can also try pulling the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then replacing it to re-set the BIOS settings to default. A USB 2.0 card incorporates it's own hub and controllers, so does not rely on existing USB components in your PC.
Generally The front USB ports are not USB 2.0, USB 2.0 are the ones which are hardwired, that is which are attached to the motherboard, this means all the USB at the back of the CPU will be USB 2.0...
